What is Open Enrollment?

Open Enrollment (October 15-31, 2020) is a once-a-year opportunity for North Carolina employees to enroll in or make changes to their health plan elections. Open Enrollment elections go into effect the following January 1. Open Enrollment is the only time each year employees can change their health benefits elections unless they experience a qualifying life event (such as marriage or the birth of a child).

How do I prepare for Open Enrollment?

1. View your options. State employees who are also members of SEANC have the option to enroll in a plan with SEANC and/or NCFlex. Review our Insurance Guide to review our plans.

2. Attend one of the SEANC online benefits fairs: Talk with insurance specialists and learn more about your benefit options at the Benefits Fair hosted by SEANC.

How do I enroll in a SEANC product?

Why should I choose a SEANC product?

• Year-round enrollment- You don’t have to wait until October to change your insurance plans. With SEANC you can change or enroll in products throughout the year.
• Portable plans- If you decide to retire, move to another agency or to the private sector, you can remain insured.
• No waiting periods- Enroll in any SEANC plan by the 10th of the month and plans will become active the first of the following month.
• No extra fees for cosmetic lens- The Enhanced Plan options of our vision plans cover many cosmetic lens extras, including progressives, transitions, anti-glare, polycarbs and tint.
• Guaranteed issue in180 days- Members are eligible for up to $150,000 of term life insurance in the first 180 days of SEANC membership.
• $5,000 orthodontia benefit- Our dental plans have a generous lifetime orthodontia benefit up to $5,000.
• Domestic partner coverage- Many of SEANC’s insurance plans allow you to cover your domestic partner.
