EMPAC has a strong showing in primary

May 11, 2018

EMPAC, the political arm of SEANC, backed a bipartisan group of legislators in this week’s primary election. Because of the hard work and dedication of our volunteer members, seven out of nine EMPAC-endorsed candidates won their races, for a success rate of 78 percent.

"Thank you to everyone who made phone calls, worked the polls and recruited members to help in our election efforts," said EMPAC Statewide Chairman Tony Smith. "EMPAC’s grassroots army made the difference in all seven races, most notably by helping prison-reform advocate Bob Steinburg win nearly 60 percent of the vote in an incredibly tough primary."

Now it’s time to gear up for the General Election. We expect dozens of very competitive races this fall, and EMPAC needs to be ready. Legislators will decide important issues in the short session, like the governor’s proposed pay raise for employees and COLA for retirees. Invest in EMPAC now so that we can make a difference in November.
