SEANC calls on NCAE to support the Clear Pricing Project

Jun 21, 2019

RALEIGH – As the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) board members and executives convened for a board meeting Friday and Saturday, the State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC) encouraged NCAE to publicly support more transparent and affordable health care coverage for teachers and all other school employees by endorsing the Clear Pricing Project.

State Treasurer Dale Folwell’s Clear Pricing Project will save teachers, state employees and other State Health Plan members $57 million every year in lower out-of-pocket expenses and premiums. It stops hospital executives from hiding the true cost of healthcare from teachers and other public servants.

SEANC has endorsed the plan on behalf of more than 720,000 state employees, retirees and their families and has encouraged hospitals and their CEOs to commit to serving State Health Plan members.

“The promise of affordable health care coverage for hundreds of thousands of current and retired teachers is hanging in the balance as hospitals and their CEOs hold the State Health Plan hostage,” said SEANC Executive Director Robert Broome. “SEANC will continue fighting publicly and forcefully for lower health care costs for every single civil servant and retiree in the state. We hope NCAE will join us in this fight.”
