Protect employees at the State Auditor's Office
Apr 29, 2025
A bill to strip State Human Resources Act protections from employees at the State Auditor's office is being heard in the House State and Local Government Committee today at 2 p.m.
House Bill 549 would exempt EVERY State Auditor's Office employee from the protections of the SHRA.
The SHRA provides structure and controls so that the state government remains the people's property. It ensures employees remain apolitical in their jobs. Loyalty must be to the people of North Carolina and not to any politician.
The SHRA maintains the public’s right to professional, non-partisan employees rather than being hand-chosen by politicians.
Employees responsible for auditing state agencies and vacant positions must remain protected by the SHRA because they fear retribution. State Auditor’s Office employees should feel safe making recommendations to the General Assembly that address waste, fraud, and inefficiencies.
