No raises, bonuses in July paychecks as budget fight lingers

Jul 26, 2019

State employees and retirees will receive their first paychecks of the new fiscal year next week, and they will contain no raises or bonuses. There continues to be little movement at the legislature or from Gov. Roy Cooper on the budget impasse. As a result, your raises and bonuses are in jeopardy.

Every day that passes, it seems more and more likely that the legislature will leave town without a budget in place, meaning the 5% two-year raise for most state employees and the 1% bonus for retirees would disappear.

SEANC President Jimmy Davis explains why we are supporting an override of the Governor’s veto, as well as other issues, in the video above. We continue to ask members to tell your legislators to support the veto override by clicking here.
