Legislature adjourns until January, leaving some raises in jeopardy

Nov 17, 2019

Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto of Senate Bill 354 and the full state budget have left pay increases for UNC and community college employees, non-certified school personnel and state retirees in jeopardy.

SEANC laid out its case of pay equity Thursday in a series of tweets that garnered much attention, calling on Gov. Roy Cooper and legislature to support fair pay raises for all state employees, not just teachers.

Gov. Cooper vetoed Senate Bill 354, which along with the passage of the full state budget would have granted a 4% pay raise to higher education employees and non-certified school personnel, because he wants higher, inequitable raises for teachers.

We need you to act now! Tell your senators to vote to override Cooper’s vetoes of both the full budget and SB 354 when the General Assembly returns in January.

Senate Leader Phil Berger praised our take, stating, “Too often, the loudest voices in the room get the most attention. State workers who regulate our drinking water and staff our prisons deserve fair treatment, and calls for continued inequity are nothing short of political pandering.”

SEANC believes all state employees deserve fair, equitable raises. Let your senator know you agree by clicking below to make your voice known. https://www.votervoice.net/mob...
