Q1: How did you become involved in SEANC? I received a SEANC packet over thirty years ago when I was hired by the state. I decided to join for several reasons but mainly because SEANC advocates for state employees’ and retirees’ rights.

Q2: What offices have you held in SEANC? District Insurance Chair, District Communications Chair, District Vice-Chair and member of the District Awards Committee.

Q3: What has been the most rewarding part of being active in SEANC? Communication. I enjoy letting people know about all that SEANC has to offer so they can become members. Recently, I spoke to a local government retiree about SEANC and she joined!

Q4: What do you wish everyone knew about SEANC? SEANC is a good organization that helps us keep our jobs, get pay raises, and brings our needs to the attention of the legislature. In addition, SEANC offers many member benefits and gives back to North Carolina communities.

Q5: What are your hobbies? I enjoy being outside tending to plants. It is amazing to watch things grow. Sometimes I sit in my garden and watch the butterflies, beetles, and ladybugs. As a certified Master Gardener, I attend meetings, participate in seminars and volunteer. My gardening group sponsors two county plant sales each year. To prepare for these sales, we tend to the plants at our greenhouses. Walking is another favorite pastime. Two years ago, I participated in a 5K walk held in Raleigh. I also enjoy watching my children and grandchildren participate in sports. They love softball, basketball, and cheerleading.

Q6: Tell us about your family: I have two grown children - a son and a daughter - and six grandchildren, ages from college graduate to elementary school. We enjoy taking annual vacations together. Each family member gets a turn to pick a vacation destination and the entire family goes there for about four days.

Q7: What is an interesting fact about you that people should know? I love working with people. I majored in Sociology which is the study of people. As a counselor at the Department of Commerce, I taught people skills and how to obtain a job. It is rewarding helping people attain their goals.
