SEANC, NCAE issue joint statement calling on Gov. McCrory to concede

Nov 28, 2016

The State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC) and the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) are calling for Pat McCrory to immediately concede the race for North Carolina’s next governor.

With a reported lead of over 9,000 votes, Roy Cooper’s victory is clear. What remains unclear is how long McCrory will contest that clear victory with baseless and targeted challenges.

“The provisional ballots left to be counted are dwindling and Cooper’s lead is only widening. It is irresponsible for McCrory to allow his ego to obstruct the transition towards North Carolina’s future with Roy Cooper as Governor,” said SEANC President Stanley Drewery.

NCAE President Mark Jewell echoed Drewery’s call, stating, “North Carolina is ready to move forward with Governor-elect Cooper. It’s clear that voters wanted to put an end to Gov. McCrory’s destructive and discriminatory policies that continually damaged this great state’s reputation. He should respect the democratic process and concede immediately. Our state deserves better than this.”

SEANC and NCAE represent hundreds of thousands of state employees, public educators and retirees and their families across the state who educate our children, take care of our loved ones, protect our communities and keep the great state of North Carolina running.
